For example, in the case of the cloned sheep, Dolly: it was the only specimen that survived out of the 277 embryos created. The embryos are either not suitable for placing it into the uterus or they die shortly after birth. The clones that do survive suffer from diseases after their birth. Some clones have been born with useless hearts, lung problems, diabetes, blood vessel problems and not working immune systems. As it is, there is sufficient evidence that points to the fact that a human clone may not live as long as an average human and it may suffer from physical or mental health problems. The safety and ethical implications of this are far reaching. Critics focus on the fact that experimenting on human life or using it or disposing it without any moral consideration is really wrong.
One day, human cloning may inevitably be allowed, however the valid questions being raised by critics must be addressed first. Dolly, the sheep that was cloned in 1996, was one of over 200 sheep embryos. Hers was the only embryo that survived and the rest died or were thrown away. Imagine if the failure rate is that high when we start to clone humans. More than 200 embryos, the start of 200 human beings, would die for the sake of just one single embryo. Even if you had a few successful embryos, miscarriages have been unmistakably common in animal tests. Which brings to question, if someone could not become pregnant, would it not seem much more rational to choose to adopt and be guaranteed a healthy, normal child rather than spend this US $100,000 to clone a child that could possibly have defects?

If the technology becomes successful with human beings, it is most likely that the human products of cloning will receive negative publicity. The clones will, as a result, feel different thus affecting their relationship with other children who are sexually reproduced. On top of this, most clones experience various defects namely birth defects, premature aging, deformed limbs and organs. This may contribute to a strained interaction of the cloned humans with the sexually reproduced children most of whom are normal.
